Follow me on Periscope

Hi everyone!

Have you discovered Periscope?

I did my first Scope recently for Modern Masters, featuring their Rust And Patina kits and my project on ModernMastersCafe.com. It was so fun. Now I’m hooked on learning from others, too.

Hope you’ll follow me, and stay tuned for painting tips, tricks, and projects right from my studio!

See you soon!

Check Out Paint & Decorating Retailer Magazine!

Paint & Decorating Retailer Magazine | January 2016 issue

Many of my friends and clients are retailers of DIY paint and decorating products. On their behalf, I am excited to see this magazine, Paint & Decorating Retailer, targeted to their business, online and in print. It is packed with need-to-read content regarding color, social media, trends, and so much more, for the do it yourself and professional markets.

I am honored that one of my fabulous clients, Modern Masters, provided some of the images from my blog posts using their products, as well as Royal Design Studio stencils and Wood Icing®.

One of my dear friends, and social media guru and marketing consultant, Regina Garay of Sociacomm.com also comments on metallics, finishes, and their currents trends.

Thank You PaintAndPattern.com!

PaintAndPattern.com

Many thanks to Melanie Royals and the team at Royal Design Studio, who publishes the online design magazine PaintAndPattern.com, for including my tutorials for a second year in 2015! Clearly, I am nuts about stenciling and all sorts of patterns, from contemporary, to Moroccan, and everything in between.

Thanks as well for sending so many stencils and modellos for me to use in my workshops at ArtFusion in Santa Fe. They are always a huge hit.

Yes, our home is very Boho, with lots of color and pattern in stenciled furniture, accessories, and artwork. Just when I think I can’t imagine one more stenciling project, I get inspired again, often by fellow P+P bloggers like Deb Trombley, of NomadicDecorator.com and so many more.

I’m looking forward to many new project adventures using Royal Design Studio stencils, modellos, Stencil Cremes and who knows what else in 2016. See you there!

Remembering 2015 Projects: Stencil And Paint Upholstery With Chalk Paint®

How to upcycle upholstery using a Royal Design Studio stencil and Chalk Paint®.

As you can see, Buggy Buggerson immediately claimed ownership of this little upholstery loveseat, which is right in the soft afternoon sun.  I wrote the blog project for Royal Design Studio‘s PaintAndPattern.com blog and it was a favorite by readers in 2015, and me, including folks at ApartmentTherapy.com!

Do you have little ones who love to get involved in holiday activities, not to mention birthdays, special events, and baby showers? As a little girl growing up in winter-frozen Massachusetts, Mom and I often found ourselves snowed in, Dad at work, anxious for fun stuff to create. She was always able to conjure a cigar box of art supplies, and away we would go, making and doing.

One especially fond memory, when I was in grammar school, was making greeting cards for all occasions when neighbors observed my passion for drawing. They paid me as much as it would have cost for a store-bought version, and I even designed a logo to add to the back, like Hallmark.

Create This Wall And Furniture Finish Using Artisan Enhancements Foils And A Fab Stencil!

Artisan Enhancements furniture and wall finish using Chalk Paint® and foils.

Can you tell that I am a pattern lover? I think that all of my travels around North America, Europe, and Africa have made me more passionate about pattern because it really defines a region or even a country.

I have been working on new ideas for my Funky Chunky Finishes workshop at the upcoming ArtFusion event in Santa Fe this November. I am so excited to visit the southwest again. It conjures up images of hot, brilliant oranges and golds. Sunbursts. Flowers. And the bling of gorgeous jewelry. I love these colors paired with the cool sky blues of the evening and the setting sun.

Check Out This Glass Art Sample For My ArtFusion Class in November

Art Fusion Funky Chunky Finishes for Cabinets & Furniture

I am in the process of having a blast creating all new finishes for my ArtFusion class in Santa Fe, on November 6. For the most part we will be painting finishes for cabinets and furniture.

And we will create one piece of glass art intended as an insert for cabinet doors. The idea is to capture family memories using a handwritten letter or note.

This class sample holds many memories for me…

…years ago after my Dad passed away I discovered a tiny, old, handwritten story in his little bible. I later learned that when he was a small boy he could not sit still in church, so his uncle wrote him stories – in their native French – to keep him amused.

I can just picture it. A little guy in a looming cathedral filled with the aroma of incense, all dressed up with his hair spit-combed by my Memere. He’s squirming in the pew and poking his big brother and sisters…

… and so began the story of the big dog adventure.

Stay tuned for the companion cabinet door sample to come soon.

Hope to see you there!

Our Dreary Brick Fireplace Gets A Fresh New Look Using Fusion Mineral Paint!

Our drab fireplace gets fabulous using Fusion Mineral Paint

Our home is in central North Carolina, where brick is the typical material for houses. Here, our dirt is not gorgeous, dark, and rich. It is, well, clay. Hard, red, and perfect for making bricks. It’s a good thing, because it is so durable. It’s sometimes a bad thing because, in homes built in the 1970s like ours, it is often dark and ugly when used for interior fireplaces. Where we live, every home in the neighborhood has a very dark, paneled den with dark stained paneling, trim and beams in 8′ foot ceilings. All of this creates a seriously dreary room.

Use Fusion Products To Create Texture And Bling On Furniture

{This post is sponsored by Fusion Mineral Paint. They graciously allow me to create projects with their amazing products. The content and ideas are my own.}

Here’s How I Used Fusion Products To Create Texture And Bling On My Bland Brown Table

Table painted with Fusion Mineral PaintI just know you have a bland, boring, brown something in the attic you are dying to make gorgeous. Right? I did too. I discovered this lovely table that was perfect. Well, almost perfect. It. Was. Ugly. Leather top and all.

Although I have played quite a lot with Fusion Mineral Paint and products, this was my first complete project where I got to brainstorm a new look for this piece, and use several fun paint colors and stencils.
