New Mexico Bound Next Week – 3 Workshops At ArtFusion And The New Leaf!

You may think I have been pretty quiet lately. But not really. I’ve been prepping a zillion sample boards, gathering supplies, writing class materials, playing with new possibilities in paint and more!

I’m so excited to head off to New Mexico next week, as an instructor at the fabulous ArtFusion event in Santa Fe, and to teach at The New Leaf in Albuquerque, with owner Angie Graham. Three workshops in three days! (And I am going to attend one, too.)

ArtFusion Santa Fe

All workshops are fully booked. Lots of awesome products are packed and heading to the venues right now.

ArtFusion Santa Fe

Many thanks to Artisan Enhancements, Fusion Mineral Paint, Modern Masters, Royal Design Studio and Wood Icing® for your generous support of me, and your donation of products for the classes!

Stay tuned next week, when we roll up our sleeves, pop cans of paint, and open up brand new stencils. I can’t wait to see the results!

I’m So Excited To Be An Instructor At ArtFusion In Santa Fe, November 3-6!

ArtFusion Event Instructor | November 3-6, 2015

I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be included as an instructor at the ArtFusion event, coming to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The list of teachers and workshops is astounding – so many amazing, talented artists sharing their finely honed crafts.

I have my eye on classes too!

There will also be an ARTFEST, open to the public – perfect to showcase and sell your original artwork.

I love that a portion of the instructors’ fees go toward several charities.

My all-day workshop, called Funky Chunky Finishes for Cabinets and Furniture will feature 10 techniques that I am creating for ArtFusion.

I would love for you to join me to get your funk on while we create classy and crustic finishes to add to your portfolio!

You will use lots of my favorite DIY paints, products and stencils – PLUS – some materials you have NEVER used in a finish before.

Play with textures, metallics, paper, foils, embossing, gilding, cake making tools, and even a piece of glass to insert into a cabinet door.

I would love to see you at ArtFusion, taking advantage of all of the creative magic sure to happen.

My Artisan Enhancements DIY Furniture Finish Challenge Project Revealed!

My Artisan Enhancements DIY Furniture Finish Challenge Project Revealed!

My Artisan Enhancements DIY Furniture Finish Challenge Project Revealed!Recently I announced that Staci Belew of Artisan Enhancements and I challenged each other to a DIY Furniture Finish Challenge, featuring AE products. We were both inspired by the Stucco Italiano wall finish photo at left that Staci discovered.

I decided to recreate it on a small piece in our hallway, and eventually, Staci will introduce her version on a focus wall later. We have not compared notes on how we approached which products to use, colors, textures, or layering. So it will be exciting to see Staci’s version too.

Fusion Stencils, Metallics And Texture Make A Simple Plant Stand Gorgeous

{This post is sponsored by Fusion Mineral Paint. They graciously allow me to create projects with their amazing products. The content and ideas are my own.}

Fusion Mineral Paint stenciled and gilded plant stand project.

I am still working on projects in our happy, bright, living room. Years ago I rescued this substantial plant stand with visions of stenciling it like glam fabric to coordinate with our old and crusty column collection. You can see that it got a quick distressed finish and nothing else. So much potential was waiting to happen, right?

Use Fusion Products To Create Texture And Bling On Furniture

{This post is sponsored by Fusion Mineral Paint. They graciously allow me to create projects with their amazing products. The content and ideas are my own.}

Here’s How I Used Fusion Products To Create Texture And Bling On My Bland Brown Table

Table painted with Fusion Mineral PaintI just know you have a bland, boring, brown something in the attic you are dying to make gorgeous. Right? I did too. I discovered this lovely table that was perfect. Well, almost perfect. It. Was. Ugly. Leather top and all.

Although I have played quite a lot with Fusion Mineral Paint and products, this was my first complete project where I got to brainstorm a new look for this piece, and use several fun paint colors and stencils.

Want To Join Me For The DIY Furniture Finish Challenge?

DIY Furniture Finish Challenge

Recently I announced the DIY Furniture Finish Challenge. I love figuring out how to get the look of an inspiration photo to share. And I’m thinking some of you might like to join me!

Here are the photos that several folks posted on Facebook that they would love to get a recipe for.

DIY Furniture Finish Challenge

I love the gorgeous yellow and grey pattern as inspiration for a furniture finish. What a lovely table top! And the soft grey, more modern shimmer on the dresser is classy and perfect for many pieces. The settee is rustic and inviting and a bit French.

DIY Furniture Finish Challenge

These finishes are quite crusty and worn!

Want to choose one or more to tackle? Simply analyze a photo. What products would be perfect to get the look? Then, choose colors and a finish, like wax or a clear coat.

HOW DO YOU PARTICIPATE?

Create the finish on a piece of furniture, or just use a sample board. Photograph the final finish, and write down your recipe including the products you used. Step by step photos with the instructions on how you got the look are preferred, but not required. Email it all to me to share on a future blog post and social media!

No deadline. We are all swamped. Just have fun with it!

I will choose one and post it as well.

Create This Two-Color Foil And Torn Chalk Paint® Cabinet Finish

Photo of silver and gold foil grey painted cabinet finish.

{Although this post is sponsored by Artisan Enhancements, the idea and comments are my own.

I created this finish to enhance the rustic construction of this narrow sideboard. Somehow the unexpected pop of shiny foil reflects the light in the dark corner, and I love how it works together with the sunburst gold mirror, the stenciled wall, and old red books.

Though I could have sold this piece many times, I have grown to love its rustic and warm patina. It has found a permanent home in our hallway where we enjoy it daily.

Would you like to reproduce this rustic, French manor-looking effect? Let’s do it!

A Favorite Stenciled Cabinet Project – Soft And Neutral Outside, Jazzy Bright Inside!

Here at My Patch of Blue Sky, I spend quite a lot of time stenciling projects for Paint + Pattern Design Magazine. I truly love the process – and all of my posts.

But this recent cabinet project was special to me. The piece was painted out in Old White Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan for months, waiting for inspiration. Suddenly, I discovered two of the loveliest new stencils released by Royal Design Studio and my mental magic happened!

In our only guest room filled with flea market finds, old books and North Carolina pottery treasures, I wanted to create a soft exterior with just a hint of pearl:

Painted, stenciled cabinet exterior.
