It has been very busy here at My Patch Of Blue Sky! Some of my favorite projects each month include writing DIY/How-To posts for Royal Design Studio’s Paint + Pattern Design Magazine. This month P+P is featuring the countries of Latin America. I especially love their Lisboa Tile stencil. While wandering through all things stencil-related on RoyalDesignStudio.com I also discovered Jacquard Discharge Paste. What? Is? That? Well, it removes color from dyed natural fabrics. And you can stencil with it!

Long story short, I was excited to discover a new product so I watched the Discharge Paste stenciling tutorial. Then I raced to my closet to find something 100% cotton to stencil. (Silk is not prominent in my wardrobe.) Voila! There was this long, simple denim jacket that perfectly fit the size of the Lisboa stencil. Scored at a high-end consignment shop. Meant to be, right? A perfect jacket for junking on cool Saturday mornings or running to the craft store.

  3. I would use the Lisboa stencil and paste to add dimension to my drapes! This would make plain red into something very classy and go great with my happy couch. Will do it even if I don’t win. Great inspiration by the way.

    • LOL Colleen. I was so excited to find a fun new product. It is inexpensive, goes a long way and stencils like paint. If you try it, I would love for you to send your photos!

  4. I would use the stencil on solid colored Tshirts and also pairs of jeans but I’m sure once I had it I would find multitudes of things to stencil!

    • Hi Susan, I am anxious to stencil some jeans too. I learned to test the Paste inside the item (I tested underneath the collar) first to be sure it will work and how many times I needed to stencil it. It’s a bit different than paint because you don’t see what you are doing a lot until you iron. Then the magic happens!

  5. I would use this paste to make a small table cover. What a great way to age fabric as well as make it interesting.

    • Linda, you are so right! I used to scour my attic for items to paint. Now I am looking for fabric to remove dye. Funny.

  6. I would use the Lisboa stencil and discharge paste to use on a DIY fabric jewellery box for rings i am planning on doing made from a Dates card board box.

And with the lisboa stencil i can use that for the perfect design instead of spending hours searching for a patterned fabric that clearly won’t be as perfect as the stencil itself 🙂

    thank you

  7. I would use the Lisboa Stencil and discharge paste to stencil new pillow covers for the family room. Summertime, and the look is beachy! This washed out look is perfect!

  8. I just love this whole idea and i have been searching for a tutorial on how to do this process for some time and I am excited to try it out! I love the way it works on denim! I would try this out first on a long breezy dress…for all these hot spring-summer days here in so cal.

    • Hi Saki, I stumbled upon this product while writing for PaintandPattern.com and had to try it. You California girls do need a breezy dress. Would love to see what you do so keep in touch!

  9. I would use the Lisboa stencil and discharge paste to style napkins and table cloths for our annual backyard Midsummer Night paella party gathering.

    • Hi Janet, good to hear from you! Curious – would you use the discharge paste on the plain portion of the dropcloth for a tone-on-tone effect? I never thought of that!

  10. I would use the Lisboa Stencil and discharge paste to…….create a tablecloth for our porch dinning table at our beach house. We use lots of candles and this would be so beautiful.

  11. I am trying to add texture outside to my flower pots that I am using again this year! Using the stencil at different angles on the pots of different sizes and shapes would bring the look together!
