Are you loving the crusty-elegant finishes we are seeing everywhere today? Me too. And knowing that Artisan Enhancements offers great, easy products to get the look I want – time for celebration!

I created this canvas art over a period of a couple of days and I am loving it in our master bedroom. The copper foil edges really add a pretty, soft pop of metallic.

Before hanging it, I noticed that the colors and textures look gorgeous with my favorite turquoise jewelry … have you noticed that the perfect place to look for color inspiration is in your closet?

Want to create the look yourself? Let’s paint!

SUPPLIES

Artisan Enhancements Fine Stone, Crackle Tex, Clear Topcoat Sealer, Leaf & Foil Size, stencil, copper foil and brushes: topcoat, round and wax and natural sea wool sponge, color shaper

• Provence Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan ( I also use some Florence and Versailles)

• brushes, rags, containers, tape, wire brush

I used a gallery-style canvas from Michael’s that is wide and wrapped. I think it looked very professional and it is reinforced in the back.

PAINT THE BASE COAT

If you have several colors of Chalk Paint® you want to blend for the base coat which will show in some areas, great. Or just use Provence. Paint one or two coats and let dry. Tape off the edges.

STENCIL THE FINE STONE

Lay the stencil on the canvas and tape it or hold it down. Use the color shaper tool to pull Fine Stone over the stencil, keeping the level of Fine Stone consistent. You can go over it several times to level it out. Let the Fine Stone dry for a few minutes so that you can place the stencil near it without smearing the pattern. Continue until the canvas is complete and let dry. Use sandpaper if needed to knock off any rough edges.

STIPPLE ON CRACKLE TEX, THEN OLD WHITE CHALK PAINT®. PULL OFF SOME PAINT AND GET ARTSY WITH SCUMBLE.

Apply a thick layer of Crackle Tex with a round brush. Be sure that you don’t go over the Crackle Tex once placed as you can pull off the crackle. It starts drying right away. Let dry. Mine took a couple of hours since it was a rainy day. Normally it takes 30 to 45 minutes.

(NOT SHOWN. Use a round brush to stipple on a heavy coat of Old White Chalk Paint®.)

As the paint begins to dry, remove strategic areas with a damp sea wool sponge, turning it as you go. Keep finding clean areas on the sponge and quickly wash it out as needed. Let dry.

(NOT SHOWN. Brush on a thin coat of Clear Topcoat Sealer with a topcoat brush and let dry 45 minutes or so.)

While the Topcoat Sealer is drying, mix a 1 to 3 ratio of French Linen Chalk Paint® to Scumble and brush over the entire surface. Remove excess with a damp rag until you like the look.

Mix a 1 to 3 ratio of Graphite Chalk Paint® to Scumble and brush over the entire surface. Remove excess until you like the look. Let dry.

FINISH THE SCUMBLE, SEAL AND ADD COPPER LEAF ON THE EDGES

You can continue to add layers of Scumble at this point to get the look you like.

Remove the tape on the edges and seal the entire piece with Clear Topcoat Sealer. Let dry. On the edges ONLY, brush on a very thin coat of Leaf & Foil Size and let come to tack for about 30 to 45 minutes. Lay a piece of foil copper side UP and burnish with a stiff brush. Remove the foil and complete all four sides. Since the canvas has texture you will be able to see some of the Provence showing through.

DONE!

Apply a coat of Clear Topcoat Sealer on the edges to seal in the stickiness of the Leaf & Foil Size. Hang your canvas and enjoy!
