Follow me on Periscope

Hi everyone!

Have you discovered Periscope?

I did my first Scope recently for Modern Masters, featuring their Rust And Patina kits and my project on ModernMastersCafe.com. It was so fun. Now I’m hooked on learning from others, too.

Hope you’ll follow me, and stay tuned for painting tips, tricks, and projects right from my studio!

See you soon!

Dimensional Hand-Painted Floral Finish Using Wood Icing®, A Stencil, And Metallics

Textured "flower power" wall or furniture finish tutorial.

Are you snowed in? We have been for a couple of days this week, enjoying the wintery weather a bit, but also dreaming of spring and anxious to see the yard and blooms again. I decided to venture into my studio and take advantage of the quiet time to conjure up a very simple dimensional hand-painted wall, furniture, or canvas art finish. I used leftover paint and products: some Wood Icing® Textura Paste to add dimension, Chalk Paint®, a large graphic flower stencil, and Modern Masters metallic paints.

Voila! This finish is artsy, easy enough for the snowed-in-kids to help with, and fast-drying.

Check Out Paint & Decorating Retailer Magazine!

Paint & Decorating Retailer Magazine | January 2016 issue

Many of my friends and clients are retailers of DIY paint and decorating products. On their behalf, I am excited to see this magazine, Paint & Decorating Retailer, targeted to their business, online and in print. It is packed with need-to-read content regarding color, social media, trends, and so much more, for the do it yourself and professional markets.

I am honored that one of my fabulous clients, Modern Masters, provided some of the images from my blog posts using their products, as well as Royal Design Studio stencils and Wood Icing®.

One of my dear friends, and social media guru and marketing consultant, Regina Garay of Sociacomm.com also comments on metallics, finishes, and their currents trends.

Thank You PaintAndPattern.com!

PaintAndPattern.com

Many thanks to Melanie Royals and the team at Royal Design Studio, who publishes the online design magazine PaintAndPattern.com, for including my tutorials for a second year in 2015! Clearly, I am nuts about stenciling and all sorts of patterns, from contemporary, to Moroccan, and everything in between.

Thanks as well for sending so many stencils and modellos for me to use in my workshops at ArtFusion in Santa Fe. They are always a huge hit.

Yes, our home is very Boho, with lots of color and pattern in stenciled furniture, accessories, and artwork. Just when I think I can’t imagine one more stenciling project, I get inspired again, often by fellow P+P bloggers like Deb Trombley, of NomadicDecorator.com and so many more.

I’m looking forward to many new project adventures using Royal Design Studio stencils, modellos, Stencil Cremes and who knows what else in 2016. See you there!

Thank You Wood Icing®!

Wood Icing®

Working with Rose Wilde, creative master of the Wood Icing® products, is always a fun  collaboration. Sometimes we just roll with ideas to see where they can go. Our intended 15 minute phone calls always last a couple of hours. Rose and I both enjoy being openly creative, meaning, letting ideas just happen serendipitously. I know I have sent her blog concepts for the Wood Icing line of products that probably were totally off the wall to her, but, all in all, she trusted me.

And what a fun year we had, playing in Textura Paste, and Furniture Glazing Colors, Fissure Size, and more! Who know you could do pen and watercolor drawings with Glazing Colors?

Rose sent lots of products to the ArtFusion Event in Santa Fe in 2015, so as an instructor  I could inspire students to stretch their flexibility when designing wall and furniture finishes. It’s so wonderful to have support like this as an artist, so I can do what I love, and spread the word about my very favorite DIY products.

I hope you’ll discover Wood Icing in 2016 if you have not already, and share your projects on the Wood Icing Facebook Page!

Thank You Modern Masters!

Thank you Modern Masters!

2015 was an exciting year for me, getting to explore even more of Modern Masters product line, particularly Metal Effects, to create rust and fabulous patina. I think these products have exploded in DIY popularity due to their ease of use, and wondrous unpredictability.

In the past couple years, I have also explored Front Door Paint, Metallic Paint and Metallic Plaster. Lucky me!

Thanks too, for supporting my workshops this year at ArtFusion in Santa Fe, and also at The New Leaf, in Albuquerque!

As a creative, tutorial-focused blogger, I am ever grateful for opportunities to work with companies like Modern Masters, who appreciate the power of letting artists like me take off and explore new possibilities with their materials.

So looking forward to working with you again in 2016 – and Periscope!

How to upcycle upholstery using a Royal Design Studio stencil and Chalk Paint®.

As you can see, Buggy Buggerson immediately claimed ownership of this little upholstery loveseat, which is right in the soft afternoon sun.  I wrote the blog project for Royal Design Studio‘s PaintAndPattern.com blog and it was a favorite by readers in 2015, and me, including folks at ApartmentTherapy.com!

Here’s one of my many favorite projects for Fusion Mineral Paint, using their paint, Tinting Kits, Sand Stone Texture, Gilding Paste, and Beeswax Finish.
