Discovering The French Farmer’s Wife Barn Sale In Kernersville, North Carolina

Rarely do I ever seem to find a new inspiring, exciting, mind-blowing junkin’ event these days, at least near home in North Carolina. Surely, I have seen them all within driving distance. However, my junkin’ partner Gloria and I were truly awestruck today, just minutes from our homes, after entering the French Farmer’s Wife!

Open just one weekend per month, from Thursday thru Saturday, The French Farmer’s Wife features curated vignette after stunning vignette of must-have items, a feast for our eyes. Who were the masterminds behind this gorgeous treasure trove of rusty gold, of French goodies, amassed all in one bucolic location?

After my first lingering pass through, I had to find them and gush compliments! Kathee Zurian (right), barn owner, and her partner Gail Cetuka, are just beyond amazing. They are most talented pickers, passionate about French antiques, who were willing to totally convert a 2,500 square foot working horse barn into a magical oasis for junkers and antiques lovers like me.

Thank You Bliss Ranch, Canvas Designz, Hometalk, And More!

Hang your collection with one post.

Pinch me! I am a passionate DIYer around our home, and for several DIY brands of paint, products, and patterns. Though I have been so fortunate to have many long-term followers over the years, rarely does my blog sort of blow up with high readership numbers.

Especially on a 2-year-old post that was a very simple project for me and my handyman hubby Steve!

I must shout out thanks to sites that shared this little post, and my similar Hometalk post, which has recently garnered over 235,000 views and 17,000 pins.

A White Painted Cabinet Features My Family Christening Ensemble

white

Sometimes re-painting a furniture piece is more about what you want to do with it than what color it it, or what finish it is. This cabinet is not old. It’s plain. It’s functional. I just painted it with Fusion Mineral Paint, in the color Casement, that requires no topcoat. It was a passionate project, brought on by the recent death of my dear Aunt Theresa. I loved her effervescent spirit all my life, and now she is gone. The last of our family in my parents’ generation.

Our Dreary Brick Fireplace Gets A Fresh New Look Using Fusion Mineral Paint!

Our drab fireplace gets fabulous using Fusion Mineral Paint

Our home is in central North Carolina, where brick is the typical material for houses. Here, our dirt is not gorgeous, dark, and rich. It is, well, clay. Hard, red, and perfect for making bricks. It’s a good thing, because it is so durable. It’s sometimes a bad thing because, in homes built in the 1970s like ours, it is often dark and ugly when used for interior fireplaces. Where we live, every home in the neighborhood has a very dark, paneled den with dark stained paneling, trim and beams in 8′ foot ceilings. All of this creates a seriously dreary room.

International Rust, Chippy Paint & Patina At The High Point Furniture Market

Blue Ocean Traders at the Spring High Point Furniture Market

Many of you know that I used to co-own a shop called Feather Your Nest with friends here in Greensboro, North Carolina. It was operated in conjunction with my former faux finishing studio, Faux Design Studio.

Of course, owning a shop means shopping the High Point Furniture Market.

One vendor I discovered years ago with my designer friend Sandra Barron was Blue Ocean Traders. Owner Jason Mulvene has made his company a top source for vintage American, European, Asian, Egyptian, and Indian furniture and accessories. For my store, I found items that coordinated well with the painted furniture and finds we offered. In my finishing studio, I bought furniture and accessories for the décor and ambiance, and often visitors twisted my arm to sell them.

Now that I am a consultant for DIY paint products and a blogger, I still love Blue Ocean Traders for photography props and a client here and there.

Saturday Morning With Coffee, Junk And A Kitty

Hanging An Old Sign

The past year has been a blur of activity for me. My Patch of Blue Sky is my second business, and entrepreneurs know that carefree weekends rarely happen, even though weekends are spent doing what we love.

I have been working like a crazy person for clients on locally owned store updates, social media, websites, creative blogging for DIY paint and products. Not to mention developing training materials and traveling. I love it all!

But, I have had to decide what my business IS and what it is NOT. Sometimes figuring out what you are NOT is harder, but ultimately very freeing. Like getting rid of some junk and keeping the good stuff.

My Funky Holiday Mantel Decorating In Our Cozy Den

This rustic fireplace is perfect for some funky decorations

Our den is where we truly live in the evening. We are empty nesters, and admittedly, we eat dinner here, watch movies and sports here, and find ourselves quite entertained by our three calico kitties each night. The fact that red leather furniture and a crusty old red door make up the décor means decorating for Christmas is a snap. In fact, decorating the mantel with lots of natural holly and large branches in the fireplace that stay in place all year is quite speedy.
